About

What we offer

At the heart of our design ethos is a desire to promote comfortable, energy efficient and affordable buildings through a well considered

design process with an emphasis on textures, sustainable materials and good detailed design. To this end we offer

space planning consultations, whole building design solutions and retrofit strategy assessments.

How we work

We begin with a detailed analysis of context and programme to set a base case against which different opportunities can be tested.

We then assess the implications of the various strategies against your expectations and budget. Then we suggest

strategies to show how your design might meet AECB CarbonLite Retrofit or Passivhaus standards.

Who we are

Romy and David are conscientious architects that enjoy meeting design challenges with innovative, poetic and playful solutions. We are equally concerned that the existing housing stock represents around 27% of the UK’s carbon emissions. We have therefore signed up to the RIBA’s 2030 Climate Challenge to help encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.

TESTIMONIALS

“I only have positive feedback after my experience of working with David Stanley.  He was the only architect who actually listened to me and gave sensible advice every step of the way.  He really helped make a stressful time much more relaxing and I felt very safe in his hands.  David helped us achieve everything we wanted to in a complex situation with a listed building.” - CK, Client Kensington

"David Stanley designed a beautiful Kitchen space for me - and bedrooms on the top floor - at my house in Barnes in London. The kitchen, in particular, was stunning, with oak framed sliding doors on two sites, leading onto a slate seating area and the garden beyond. He was always lovely to deal with and took great care to explaining things and to oversee the builders." - Diana Henry, Client (Chef and Cooking Writer), Barnes

“It is always a pleasure working with you as not only you are very efficient, professional, easy to work with and good with the London planning. But you have also very good ideas to brighten and making the space look bigger.” - Laurent Lakatos, Client Nottinghill

“We have worked with David Stanley Architects on a number of projects and have found working as a team with Dave to be a "productive pleasure". Dave approaches architecture with lots of innovative ideas for spaces and materials and he does a great job of managing the client/contractor relationship.” - Ranald Wright, Hennerton Construction

"Dave was suggested as an architect to us by a neighbour, and he drew up the Designs and made the Planning Application for our large basement in RBKC, and it sailed through the process. He then refined the drawings, offering some great quirky ideas as requested and ultimately always fulfilling our brief with his experience and humour. The finished plans are fantastic, we have gained 2 large en-suite bedrooms, a wine cellar and a huge kitchen / diner / reception as well a courtyard. And of course a friend. We look forward to our next project with him." - Simon Sanders, Client Nottinghill

“I have worked with David on many projects with varying degrees of complication.  He really understands clients design aspirations and interprets them to work on a practical as well as design level. On one particularly difficult Grade II listed house, he worked closely with the client and the planners to resolve all issues so that the planners were satisfied and the client was happy.  With his calm approach he made it seamless and a painless for which we were all very thankful.” - Nicole Mahal, Balance Project Management and Design

"Dave helped us rework the space in our ground floor London flat, moving the kitchen and improving access to the garden. He had some helpful suggestions about improving storage and making use of our high ceilings but limited footprint, and his drawings were invaluable in helping us to communicate with our contractor. Aside from that he was super pleasant to work with, interested in how we used the space and keen to help us use it better." - Abi Gliddon, Client Kennington
